10 Best Action Cameras Under $100 Dollars in 2019

You’re about to go on a trip and want to record the fun. Or there’s a big family reunion and still photos don’t have the same draw as real, live video of all your loved ones. Or maybe you like to update your Instagram all the time. Whatever you reason, you need an action camera instead of a regular, still-photography model. However, action cameras can be costly and you only have a budget of $100, so where do you start?

They all have a bunch of terms like “4K” and a long list of features that you’re not even sure you’re going to need. Don’t worry, we’re here to help narrow down the list. There’s a few basics right off the bat before we get into it.

First, most cameras offer 4K resolution these days. This is a good thing, since it means your video is going to come out clean and crisp just the way you want it. Secondly, not all action cameras are waterproof, although many are. So double-check if there’s any chance you’ll be getting your model wet. Nothing ruins a good electronic device faster than water.

We’ll break down a list of the best action cameras under $100 dollars, then get into detailed reviews of each piece. Finally, we’ll explain how to find the right camera for your specific needs

#1. REMALI 4K Sports Camera

REMALI 4K Sports Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Wi-Fi Remote Control
  • Carrying case
  • Extra accessories
  • Wi-Fi App for all devices
  • Max Video Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 100 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.5 lbs
  • Extra Features: Remote Control and Wi-Fi App

The REMALI 4K Sports Camera is a nice option for traveling, thanks to the carrying case that comes with the package. It’s great for taking video of the family from afar or while doing something complicated, as it comes with a remote control and Wi-Fi capability that makes handling the REMALI 4K Sports Camera a breeze. It captures HD video, like all the cameras on our list, and is on the upper end of maximum field-of-view measurements at 170 degrees.

My Impressions

I like this camera. I think that the Wi-Fi app, which works for apple or android devices, adds a level of functionality that does wonders for taking video while on the move. The remote control itself is a little clunky but that’s a mild complaint.

The carrying case is sturdy and has room for all of its many attachments; I like accessories when it comes to cameras so this is a plus.

What Could be Better

However, the actual base of the REMALI 4K Sports Camera is clunkier than I like. It’s a little too easy to drop when you’re assembling it or placing the base for a great chunk of video. However, I think that this is overall a great action camera whose pros greatly outweigh its cons.

#2. ieGeek 4K Action Camera

ieGeek 4K Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Many accessories
  • Waterproof Functionality
  • Thick, protective case
  • Max Video Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 60 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.28 lbs
  • Extra Features: Waterproof and many extra attachments

This is truly an all-terrain camera that’s designed to come on any adventure you have in mind. Underwater, in the mountains, in the forest, you name it. The ieGeek 4K Action Camera has all kinds of accessories and protective gear to ensure that it can handle any of your outdoor excursion while managing to capture it all in 4k video.

My Impressions

I like the stand of this one a lot better than the REMALI. The ieGeek 4K Action Camera itself has a sleeker look and feel to its buttons, too. In terms of actual specs both of these cameras are pretty similar; the ieGeek just has more stuff to take with you, which can be a bother if you’re not looking to go on a cross-country outdoors trip. I think this is the better choice if your locale or environment is going to be changing consistently.

What Could be Better

The battery life is low for my liking; being able to go for only an hour really cuts down the fun time with the ieGeek 4K Action Camera, compared to many of the other models which have batter lives around the 100 hundred minute mark. This is doubly unfortunate because if you’re busy with your hands on some rapids you don’t have time to turn the camera on and off to preserve the battery.

Best Mount Options

#3. Cyclops Gear CGX-LT Action Camera

Cyclops Gear CGX-LT Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Wi-Fi capable
  • Touch screens
  • Waterproof
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 60 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.15 lbs
  • Extra Features: Waterproof, Wi-Fi enabled touchscreen

The Cyclops Gear CGX-LT Action Camera boasts a total of eight mounts, which is great for variety but I’m sure the same job could have been done with fewer. Nevertheless, this is a solid camera with great picture and capture settings and a wi-fi enabled touchscreen. Its field-of-view is a little lower than some of the other cameras, probably around 150 degrees, but I don’t think it will be noticeable most of the time.

My Impressions

The Cyclops Gear CGX-LT Action Camera is really compact and I like that; I can fit it into a pocket and whip it out for some quick video at a moment’s notice. The specifications are fairly standard, which is impressive since it’s smaller than a lot of other cameras on our list. It manages to capture great, smooth video despite the tiny lens.

What Could be Better

The smaller field-of-view is an obvious minus, but as I said it’s not very noticeable. What is noticeable is the low battery life, like the previous cameras we reviewed. The Cyclops Gear CGX-LT Action Camera also doesn’t come with as many accessories as some of the other cameras and it’s got no case. This is, altogether, a fine camera but I think it’s outshined by a lot of the others. There’s not a big “selling point” with this one.

Best Touch Screen

#4. YI 4k Action Camera

YI 4k Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Bluetooth enabled
  • Wi-Fi
  • Voice controller
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 160 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 120 minutes of video
  • Weight: 3.53 lbs
  • Extra Features: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Voice Control

This is a sleek, crisp-looking camera that snags good video with a touchscreen that’s bolstered by gorilla glass. That’s a great perk since touch screens are notorious for being one of the first things to break on a camera if it’s bumped or dropped. The YI 4k Action Camera also works with voice controls, which are an interesting addition that can be very handy if you take video on a timer or want to be in the action instead of behind the lens.

My Impressions

YI’s offering is a solid one. The YI 4k Action Camera has really nice battery life and the video capture is as smooth as the other cameras on our list, so you’re not losing anything in the tradeoff, here. The aesthetics of this camera are a big bonus; the white/silver stands out in a sea of black cameras. This might not matter to many folks, though.

What Could be Better

The field-of-view is a little low at 160 degrees, but that’s the only real issue I found with the YI 4k Action Camera. I suppose the lack of accessories is a bit of a bummer but the suite of hi-tech features it comes with more than makes up for it, in my opinion.

Best for Video with Movement

#5. Crosstour Action Camera 9500

Crosstour Action Camera 9500 Review
Product Highlights:
  • Extra Mounts
  • Steady-Shake tech
  • Wi-Fi
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: Unknown
  • Battery Life: Approx. 100 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.53 lbs
  • Extra Features: Anti-Shake, Extra Mounts, Wi-Fi

The Crosstour Action Camera 9500 is designed for steady video despite a source of shaking. This makes it ideal for video capture when you’re in a river-rafting scenario, for instance, or on a train or even in a car driving along a bumpy road.

The field-of-view is a little unclear, but it sufficed for its purposes. It comes with a bunch of stands to go along with the anti-shake tech built into the device. I found that the video the Crosstour Action Camera 9500 captured was so smooth I couldn’t notice a lot of minor bumps and shakes.

My Impressions

The Crosstour Action Camera 9500 is a dependable choice that has a place in rougher terrain or with users who are going to be capturing while on the move. Think recording while on a bike or a plane; you won’t need to worry about unenjoyable footage thanks to the anti-shake tech. The battery life is good enough, I feel, and it comes with Wi-Fi to complete the package and make sharing the video a snap.

What Could be Better

Despite all its perks, it’s a little bulky, so while it’s designed to be used on the move I think it could easily be dropped since it takes up so much hand space. The Crosstour Action Camera 9500 is sturdy enough that I wouldn’t be too worried if it fell from a short height, but the danger remains no matter how lucky you’re feeling.

#6. Campark X20 4k Action Camera

Campark X20 4k Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Multiple capture modes
  • Many accessories
  • Remote control
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: Unknown
  • Battery Life: Approx. 100 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.1 lbs
  • Extra Features: Waterproof, multiple modes, Wi-Fi

The Campark X20 4k Action Camera comes with software for multiple capture modes baked in. While this sounds like a wasted feature, it’s actually good for capturing footage in sub-prime conditions. Think nighttime adventures or video in fog.

You can also play around with the footage for fun before posting to Instagram or your facebook page. The Campark X20 4k Action Camera’s video is smooth and crisp. A remote control allows for easy use even from a distance.

My Impressions

This is a compact camera with a great suite of capture options. This is probably one of the better choices for young adults or those who like to alter the footage they capture. The Campark X20 4k Action Camera is not too expensive by a long shot and the extra accessories and stands it comes with completes the whole package. This is one of the best cameras on our list.

What Could be Better

The remote control I mentioned earlier is really small. It’s very easily lost and I can foresee this causing someone a bit of stress down the road. But so long as you keep the remote in sight or in a specific place, you should be fine.

#7. GeeKam 4K Action Camera

GeeKam 4K Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Extra accessories
  • Dual-Screen
  • Wrist Remote Control
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 90 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.19 lbs
  • Extra Features: Dual-Screen, Waterproof, Many Accessories

This is a great camera on our list, even if it does come in pink. The GeeKam 4K Action Camera comes with dual-screen functionality, a Wi-Fi wrist control so that you don’t lose it like the camera above, it’s waterproof, and it comes with a number of cool accessories. This is one of the best deals we’ve found, as it doesn’t have any big weak points or flaws that bring the whole product down.

My Impressions

The battery is long-lasting enough, but it could use a little more juice. That being said, the GeeKam 4K Action Camera was a snap to use and very intuitive in its design. The dual-screens took only a minute to get used to and then I was off. The wrist control is a smart solution to an easily-lost remote. Overall I love this camera; it’s a fantastic jack-of-all-trades option for those who are shopping for a good action camera.

What Could be Better

I wish there were more color options, and the display on the front of the GeeKam 4K Action Camera is a little retro. I don’t think that’s a really big complaint, though. The battery life, like I mentioned, could be a little longer and then I think this would be an even better piece. As it stands it’s too close to not enough battery for enjoyment.

#8. AlQui 4K Wi-Fi Action Camera

AlQui 4K Wi-Fi Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Wrist Remote Control
  • Accessories
  • Waterproof
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 90 minutes of video
  • Weight: 2.24 lbs
  • Extra Features: Dual-Screen, Waterproof, Wi-Fi

The AlQui 4K Wi-Fi Action Camera takes good video and has a great feature with its waterproof case: it can survive for depths up to 100 feet below the surface. This is the second-best camera we have for those who are going to record while near or under water.

I think I like the GeeKam better thanks to its shape and some of the more minor features, but it’s really close and the AlQui does the same kind of professional job as most of the cameras on the list.

My Impressions

The AlQui 4K Wi-Fi Action Camera takes good video and has a great feature with its waterproof case: it can survive for depths up to 100 feet below the surface. This is the second-best camera we have for those who are going to record while near or under water.

I think I like the GeeKam better thanks to its shape and some of the more minor features, but it’s really close and the AlQui does the same kind of professional job as most of the cameras on the list.

What Could be Better

The battery time, like the GeeKam, is a bit low but not enough to ruin the experience. This is something of a nitpick, but the lens is really large in comparison to the rest of the AlQui 4K Wi-Fi Action Camera. This makes the lens susceptible to damage if thrown in a purse or carrying case.

Best for Underwater Use

#9. DBPOWER EX7000 Sports Action Camera

DBPOWER EX7000 Sports Action Camera
Product Highlights:
  • Best Underwater capability
  • Extra Accessories
  • Remote Control
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 100 minutes of video
  • Weight: 2.88 lbs
  • Extra Features: Remote Control, Many Accessories, Waterproof

The DBPOWER EX70000 Sports Action Camera is a great camera that has a bunch of recording settings and the best underwater functionality we have on our list: 148 feet below the surface, it will keep going. It has a crisp, clean design and the touchscreen is large enough that you don’t have trouble hitting the right buttons. The picture quality is crisp and clear.

My Impressions

This is one of the better cameras on our list, especially thanks to its ultra-waterproof capabilities. The minimal design contributes to the overall solid feeling of the device. I found that I enjoyed the DBPOWER EX7000 Sports Action Camera thanks to its simplistic and sleek interface. Definitely a favorite.

What Could be Better

Unfortunately, it has a tendency to run hot sometimes, so I would be careful about overusing this if it’s really warm outside. You could accidentally melt the internal machinery. Other than that one flaw, it’s a fantastic piece.

#10. AKASO EK7000 4K Action Camera

AKASO EK7000 4K Action Camera Review
Product Highlights:
  • Multiple field-of-view options
  • Mount
  • Wrist Remote Control
  • Max Resolution: 4K
  • Field of View: 90, 120, or 170 Degrees
  • Battery Life: Approx. 90 minutes of video
  • Weight: 1.45 lbs
  • Extra Features: Waterproof, Wi-Fi App

For our last camera, the AKASO EK7000 4K Action Camera is a great choice for those who like to tinker with their video capture. It offers settings for 90, 120, and 170 degree field-of-view, and each of those offers clean video to be admired and shared.

It comes with the standard assortment of touch screens and resolution. The AKASO EK7000 4K Action Camera is also waterproof and has another of those awesome wrist remote-controls.

My Impressions

This is another good camera if you want to mess with the video capture and aren’t just looking to snag memories-in-progress. I think the AKASO EK7000 4K Action Camera’s small size messes with that functionality a little, since a bigger screen could help you choose what setting you’re after more easily. But overall I like it; it offers great capture at a great price.

What Could be Better

The battery life isn’t fantastic and should be higher. The big lens problem I talked about with another camera a while back is here, as well, and offers the same possible risks for damage.

Best Action Camera Under $100 - Buying Guide

Action cameras, first and foremost, need to be understood as video cameras. These are devices designed to be in motion, so they’re a little more heavy-duty than a lot of still-photography cameras in general.

Before you make any decision about choosing the best action camera router under 100, let's check out the features that matter the most.

Resolution: These cameras are all in 4K, which basically means that they take high-definition video footage. This is an industry standard and you’d be hard-pressed to find cameras that didn’t offer this kind of quality.
Field-of-View: This is referring to how wide the lens is, or how much space in front of the camera is captured and processed to video. The wider the field-of-view, the more power and light a camera must have to capture great video footage. Usually this score is around 170 degrees, and smaller field-of-view sometimes offer better footage at that range even if you capture less around the perimeter.
Accessories: A lot of cameras come with carrying cases or mounts; these are vital parts of an action camera package because, remember, you’re supposed to be taking these around to various places. Remote controls allow you to place the camera somewhere and pose or act for the video, so you can participate in the recorded memories.
Waterproofing/Sturdiness: Many of these cameras are waterproof to some degree. This is useful for taking underwater video or for braving places where your equipment has a high chance of becoming wet to some degree.

Pick a camera that fulfills the most functions you think you’ll need.

For instance, let’s say you want to go hiking and river-rafting. You’re going to want a camera that offers good waterproofing and sturdiness, since it’ll probably be banged up or wet to some degree. You should also get a camera that fits well in your hand so you don’t drop it.

But maybe you’re after a camera that can take a bunch of video of you and your friends and you’ll post that footage to social media later Wi-Fi capable cameras are a must, and you might look into ones that offer cool setting changes to the field-of-view or the capture process.

Still other cameras have a lot of accessories designed for people who travel a lot, taking a ton of video along the way. Big batteries and cameras with cases or many mounts are the types you’re going to be after. No matter what, focus on your actual goals and find a camera that works with them.

Final Words

Action cameras are a great way to seal your memories in time. Thankfully most of them capture great video as a prerequisite, so the details matter more than ever when you’re picking out one for yourself.

There are a ton of great options for the best action cameras under $100; hopefully we helped find the right one, or at least the right kind, for you!
