#1. Sanyun SW102 Computer Speakers

Sanyun SW102 Computer Speakers Reviews
Top Features:
  • Blue LED Lights
  • 360 Degree Stereo Sound
  • USB Powered
  • Frequency Range30Hz – 20KHz
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: No
  • Weight: 1.15 pounds
  • Dimensions: 3.9 x 2.8 x 3 inches

Let’s begin with the Sanyun SW102 Computer Speakers. These are very affordable and easy to set up, getting their power via a USB cable to be attached to the computer. They're also made to look interesting and stylish on your desk or around your monitor, with glowing blue LED lights underneath the speaker chassis.

My Impressions

The Sanyun SW102 Computer Speakers are a solid offering if you’re looking to get budget speakers. They don’t have the best range or the widest sound frequencies but they deliver a satisfying experience for most of the common sounds that can come from your games: explosions, gunfire, etc. The design of the Sanyun SW102 Computer Speakers is compact and modern; they’ll look good on basically any desk.

What Could be Better

A subwoofer or better range in the sound would make these an even better deal. As they are, they’re a great entry speaker set or good for kids who aren’t going to necessarily care that much about obtaining the ultimate quality.

#2. Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers

Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers Review
Top Features:
  • Optimized Glass Fiber Gaming Drivers
  • Increased Bass Output
  • Fine-Tuning Control Knob
  • Type2.0 PC Speakers
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: No
  • Weight: 4.41 pounds
  • Dimensions: 5.5 x 6.7 x 8.7 inches

The Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers are a pricier option than the Sanyun speakers but they have better range and depth of sound in comparison. Their design is simple but functional; the volume control being located right on the front makes them easy to use and the sound they emit even easier to modify. The Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers’ drivers ensure that the sound quality remains great no matter if the volume is higher or lower than average.

My Impressions

The Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers are a great pair of speakers that perform their basic function very well. The sound quality does remain the same at any volume; this is a benefit for a gamer since fluctuations in volume are common as gunfire or other pyrotechnics flare up on the screen. The headphone jack being located right at the front is smart design. It can be annoying to have to dig around to plug in headphones if the jack is located behind the drivers.

What Could be Better

The Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers don’t offer much else besides basic sound emission. They lack any extra or swaying features, so while they’re really good at what they do you might want to look elsewhere if you need some more perks.

#3. Razer Nommo Chroma Gaming Speakers

Razer Nommo Chroma Gaming Speakers Review
Top Features:
  • Optimized Glass Fiber Gaming Drivers
  • Increased Bass Output
  • Fine-Tuning Control Knob
  • Frequency RangeNot Mentioned
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: No
  • Weight: 4.41 pounds
  • Dimensions: 5.5 x 6.7 x 8.7 inches

These speakers are meant for intense, high-quality gaming. The Razer Nommo Chroma Gaming Speakers deliver rich, deep sound through all frequencies thanks to their gaming drivers, optimized for maximum effect. They’re made with glass fiber to ensure that the sound range is crisp and full. The sound quality does not suffer as it dips high or low and stuttering is absent, as the drivers are designed to withstand the barrage of high-intensity sounds video games often create.

My Impressions

These are a great pair of speakers that I’d recommend for any gamer with a small desk size. The Razer Nommo Chroma Gaming Speakers are not too large but deliver great quality sound. The knob located on one of the speakers is an excellent feature that really allows any gamer to tune their experience; this is something gamers do already when they customize their games, so the extension of that same philosophy is more than welcome when it comes to the sound.

What Could be Better

The Razer Nommo Chroma Gaming Speakers aren't very stylish and look like cameras. This might be a con for some, but for many, it won't matter. Other than that, I have few complaints. The addition of a subwoofer would really complete this set and make it perfect, in my opinion.

Best for Those on a Budget

#4. Logitech Multimedia Speakers Z200

Logitech Multimedia Speakers Z200 Review
Top Features:
  • Dual-Driver Speakers
  • Easy Headphone Jacks at Front
  • Sensitive Volume Control
  • Frequency RangeNot Mentioned
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: No
  • Weight: 2.2 pounds
  • Dimensions: 4.8 x 3.5 x 9.4 inches

The Logitech Multimedia Z200 Speakers are another excellent set for any gamer looking to improve their sound quality. First off, they bring dual-driver functionality to the list. This means that two drivers are integrated on each speaker, one for active sound and one for passive. The range and quality of sound layers you can get with these is excellent. Finally, there are some great design choices with the jacks located in the front corners of the speakers and the control knob being very sensitive to touch. The power button is built into the same spot, too, making the front the only part of the speaker you ever really have to worry about.

My Impressions

The Logitech Multimedia Z200 Speakers are absolutely fantastic value for money. If you’re on a budget I would say look no further, because the Logitech Multimedia Z200 Speakers deliver great quality and design for a fraction of the higher-priced sets on our list. No much is sacrificed in this product.

What Could be Better

The lack of a subwoofer is again a bit of an unfortunate con but given the price of the Logitech Multimedia Z200 Speakers, I can't complain too much. The stands that each speaker rests on are a bit flimsy, too, so placing them in a spot where they won’t be irritated too much is probably a good idea.

Best for Small Spaces

#5. Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System

Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System Review
Top Features:
  • Glass Fiber Drivers
  • BasXPort Tech Imitates the Effect of Subwoofer
  • Front-Facing Controls
  • Frequency RangeNot Mentioned
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: No
  • Weight: 5.8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 5.6 x 3.5 x 9.1 inches

No to be outdone, the Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System brings more great quality at an affordable price for any gamer. The glass fiber drivers that the Chroma speakers boasted return here; these are great drivers for speakers working with the intense, layered sounds that video games often generate, so any speaker holding drivers made from the material has a boost in quality. In addition, the same smart design for front-facing controls we’ve already seen returns here as well.

The big selling point is the BasXPort Tech built into the Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System. This tech, combined with cloth dome tweeters, makes an impressive imitation of subwoofer sound that almost totally negates the need for an actual unit.

My Impressions

The addition of the subwoofer imitator really seals the deal for me. These are great speakers, and the integrated Bass Tech is a good idea since you’re not getting a set of speakers for the living room, after all. Instead, the Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System can fit entirely on a computer desk, in perfect range of any gamer’s ready ears.

What Could be Better

There aren’t any large cons with the Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II Multimedia Speaker System. For the asking price, the value you’re getting with all of this set’s features is phenomenal.

Best for Budget and Subwoofer Inclusion

#6. Logitech Speaker System Z323

Logitech Speaker System Z323 Review
Top Features:
  • Subwoofer Included
  • Integrated Jacks for Headphones and Other Devices
  • 360-Degree Sound
  • Frequency RangeNot Mentioned
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: Yes
  • Weight: 8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 9.4 x 9.9 x 9.8 inches

Our first set to come with a subwoofer in the set, the Logitech Z323 Speaker System is another great budget option for those looking to get as much from their game’s sound as possible without breaking the bank. The subwoofer is designed with stands so that you can place it practically anywhere it fits. The Logitech Z323 Speaker System has integrated jacks for all sorts of extra devices like phones or iPods, and the speakers themselves emit really good sound that’s mixed to simulate a 360-degree surround sound setup.

My Impressions

This is one of the better sets we’ll look at that has a subwoofer. Overall the Logitech Z323 Speaker System delivers a great range of experience to the ears; the great sound mixing that’s spread between the two speakers is even and balanced so that one side never dominates the other. The volume range is really stable, too, so you get great sound no matter how high or low you go.

What Could be Better

The jacks mentioned earlier are located in the back. This is bad design, but it’s not so bad a con as to drag down the entire set in the process. It’s more of a nitpick than an actual flaw, although other speaker sets have already proven to do better by placing jacks in the front.

#7. Logitech Z313 Speaker System

Logitech Z313 Speaker System Review
Top Features:
  • Subwoofer Included
  • Controller Included
  • Easy Connect Through Subwoofer
  • Power25 Watts
  • Number of Speakers: 2
  • Subwoofer: Yes
  • Weight: 7.1 pounds
  • Dimensions: 13 x 6.5 x 9.25 inches

Our next subwoofer-included set is the Logitech Z313 Speaker System. Its subwoofer is the hub for the entire system: the speakers are plugged into the subwoofer, which is then connected to the computer. This setup is a little convoluted and can make for tangled cord connections if you’re not careful.

The sound quality from the Logitech Z313 Speaker System is decent but not the best we’ve heard. The controlling pod that comes with the purchase is a nice feature, but it’s hardly necessary when many of the volume and setting controls can be changed from the computer itself. It’s also an odd design choice to include a controller instead of having knobs on the speakers like most competitor models.

My Impressions

This is a middle-of-the-road set that I’m not the most enthused by. The other Logitech offerings have smarter design around similar or better prices, and the sound quality is nothing to be excited about. The subwoofer isn't even a deal-maker, as the previous Logitech speakers, we reviewed also come with one.

What Could be Better

The Logitech Z313 Speaker System needs some smarter design and better features to make it a worthwhile purchase over all the other speakers we’ve seen so far. As it stands, it doesn’t do anything very well, just well enough.
Best for Full-Range Sound Quality

#8. Logitech Z906 Surround Sound Speaker System

Logitech Z906 Surround Sound Speaker System Review
Top Features:
  • Subwoofer Included
  • 5-speaker Set
  • Surround Sound
  • Flexible Setup
  • Main Control Unit and Remote
  • Power500 Watts
  • Number of Speakers: 5
  • Subwoofer: Yes
  • Weight: 36.6 pounds
  • Dimensions: 15.2 x 17 x 17.3 inches

The king of all gaming speakers is right here. The Logitech Z906 Surround Sound Speaker System carries fantastic surround sound thanks to its 5-speaker system. Combined with the subwoofer, the range and depth of sound from video games is unparalleled. The range is rich and vibrant. There’s no stuttering and no lost sounds in the mix from speaker to speaker, so everything sounds as natural and fluid as hearing things in real life.

The Logitech Z906 Surround Sound Speaker System also comes with an excellent main control bar and a remote control. This is great, since handling all of the different pieces can offer a lot of customization for any gamer looking to personalize their experience.

My Impressions

This is the best set a gamer could get for the maximum hearing experience, although the price is higher than any of the other sets we’ve reviewed. Still, if it’s a question of absolute quality there isn’t much better than this set. The Logitech Z906 Surround Sound Speaker System covers every possible need or possible sound and mixes the entire batch without stumbling. It’s an excellent product.

What Could be Better

Nothing, although the price will turn some off from this purchase.

Best Gaming Speakers - Buying Guide

Before you actually make any decisions regarding which speakers are right for you, it’s important to understand all the factors that make up a speaker set. This is one of the best ways to make sure a set is worth the money and not just filled with useless features that won’t enhance the experience in any way.

Number of Speakers and Drivers: The first thing to examine in any potential gaming speakers is the number of parts, specifically speakers and drivers. They’re not the same thing.

Drivers are the cone-shaped or built-in emitters of sound that many call speakers in everyday parlance. Speakers, meanwhile, are the tall or boxy units that carry drivers in them. Think of drivers as the disc or “eye” embedded into a speaker, which is the overall chassis.

Most speakers only have one driver per unit, although some have two or three. The more drivers per speaker, the better the sound quality and range. This is because having more drivers allows the speaker to separate the layers of the sound it’s emitting, dedicating certain drivers to specific layers. The overall result is a much more nuanced and deep sensory experience.

Drivers can be made from a variety of materials, although some are made of glass fiber. This is an excellent material for drivers. Speakers with glass fiber drivers will have deeper, richer sound than those without, although this deficiency can always be made up for with other things, like more speakers or speakers with multiple drivers per unit.

Sound Quality: Most gaming speakers are built with good sound systems, although this can vary from model to model. Sound quality is usually a collection of other factors: driver composition, subwoofer presence, number of drivers per speaker, etc.

There's also a specific number range listed in Hertz. This is usually reflected on the back of a box or in the product specifications, although it is sometimes obscured. Wider ranges are indicative of a speaker’s ability to accurately emit different pitches, tones, and frequencies of sound, so wider rangers are always a plus instead of a minus.

Subwoofer Inclusion: Subwoofers are responsible for emitting the lowest sounds that human ears can detect. These include the rumbling, bass-heavy cores of explosions or even more subtle sub-bass sounds that enhance the experience of anyone listening but which are difficult to separate once layered with other noises. Subwoofer inclusion means a much more varied and complete sensory experience, and for video games, which are rife with low-frequency sounds, subwoofers are a great addition to any set. Explosions and gunfire sound much better when subwoofers help out.

Extras: Some sets come with extra perks or features, such as controllers or headphone jacks. These are not strictly necessary, but they might help you decide between two products in edge cases. See what each speaker set offers as extras before making a final decision.

Final Words

There are many sorts of gaming speakers to choose from. But knowing what’s worth the cost can help anyone make a smart purchase and pick the best gaming speakers for all of their gaming habits. Whether you’re into single-player RPGs or intense, multiplayer first-person-shooters, there are some excellent speakers available to enhance your experience. What are you waiting for? Get some speakers and get back to the controller!
